We all operate the search engine like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Lycos, AltaVista and many more whenever we require any sort of information. The search engine displays the results according to the keywords we specified in the search criteria. As we all know millions of websites are there on web on the same topic but how the search engine ranks the one to another. There must be some logic that they are following to rank the web sites.

Search engines basically generate specific account lying on the Internet. This is known as index of that particular search engine. Whenever any site is registered the search engine stores its information through Web crawler or spider- A kind of software used by the search engines. Then the theme of the web site, keywords phrases, and content is explored to index the pages.

Web crawler plays an important role in order to scan the information of the particular site and index it according to the priority of the keywords phrases, content etc. Whenever we put our searching criteria the search engines starts obtaining those keywords in its index and displays the outcome accordingly.
